About

This site is owned and operated by Vik Pahwa who can be reached at vik@vikpahwa.com.

Vik Pahwa is a professional documentary photographer and a visual urbanist and his inspiration is the built environment. He specializes in architecture (both historic and contemporary), infrastructure and the urban environment with a strong emphasis on geometry.

With a  degree in engineering and 12 years of experience in Information Technology Vik was looking for a change. He picked up a camera, learned how to shoot on his own and started documenting the architecture, infrastructure and cityscapes of Toronto through a daily photography blog – vikpahwa.com – running for over 10 years  while concurrently started a business as a freelance urban and architectural photographer.

Vik photographed 100 images for the recently released book “Remnants of Mid-Century Toronto” with Spacing magazine (http://spacing.ca/toronto/2020/07/10/spacings-new-book-remnants-of-mid-century-toronto/). It features images of modernist churches, high-rises and Brutalist architecture.

Vik also photographed over 200 buildings for the architecture guide book “Toronto Architecture: A City Guide, 3rd Edition (by Patricia McHugh and Alex Bozikovic – see https://twitter.com/toronto_arch). He worked with local community group Leaside Matters to document the worker’s housing of the Canada Wire and Cable Company. The project culminated in an exhibition and book entitled Hidden Amongst Us: Architectural Portraits of Leaside’s Canada Wire and Cable Company Homes. His photos appear in the City of Toronto Archives,  Spacing Magazine and books by Monocle, Phaidon Press and Wiley. His clients include the City of Toronto, ERA Architects, WSP Engineering and Ontario Creates Corporation.

In addition to vikpahwa.com, Vik’s photos can be seen at

All images appearing at vikpahwa.com are available for sale. Vik Pahwa Photography also has a large and extensive database of images of Toronto compiled over eight years including new and historical architecture and transit infrastructure that is also available for sale.

Vik is available for photography commissions in architecture, locations and scouting, urban scenes, transit, infrastructure, demolitions and construction. I have a keen interest in documentary photography and minimalist imagery and am open to working with artists and professionals in all fields.

  1. Hi Vik,

It was great meeting you at Sweaty’s last Thursday. Love your blog, reminds me of some of the stuff we were trying to do at opencityprojects.com.

I’m no longer part of the group but I’m still very interested in the topic and getting ready to launch something hyper-local.

    Let’s stay in touch.

    Marco

  2. Hi Vik,

It was nice talking to you and your friends last Saturday night. We met at the Telephone Booth Gallery on Dundas West, for the opening of the artist Heather Benning @ Contact photo.

Your architectural pictures are very beautiful. The composition and frame is strong. I will check your tree walk, would love to come sometime this summer.

    Martine

  3. Vik!
This is a great collection of your work, it’s great to see it all together. I love your photos and the exploration walks, too. Wishing you continued success!
