Yesterday’s photo featured the more well-known Masonic Temple. Both these buildings are owned by the Ilitch organization – a group that is buying up a lot of porperty in the “arena” area of Detroit.
The LOOM lodge has a basement that is larger than the building itself – extending under the sidewalks.
Unlike most buildings built in the area (with reinforced concrete), this building will have a concrete core surrounded by a steel beam structure.
The vault features a 4-foot thick steel door weighing 40 tonnes that can be moved with a finger.
The Omni King Edward Hotel? Yes, as in Omni Hotels and Resorts.
Design by Adamson Associates, Glencairn opened in 1978. It features a vaulted glass roof spanning the length of the station, unfinished concrete walls, seating sheltered within glass walls and backlit signage.
