20220316. #Rexdale 4. Mounds of dirt stand where a new mall will replace the demolished Sears warehouse in Rexdale. One of the first Contact Photo exhibits I went to featured photos of mounds not unlike these ones. Guess it stuck with me.

20220311. A Ledbury Park modern mid-rise office building awaits demolition. Interesting features include curved brise soleil at the top and a semi-elliptical walkway.
20220310. This mixed-use strip mall features a breeze wall on the upper floor providing privacy to renters.
20220309. Rexdale Mall was built in 1956, enclosed in 1972, demolished in 2004 yet the former Zellars/Towers structure survives as the Fresh Value grocery store and a bunch of small businesses – a true Remnant of Mid-Century Toronto.
20220308. The googie gas bar (Canadian Tire, Rexdale, 1968). Googie architecture can also be called expressionist, mid-century modern, space age, Populuxe and Doo Wop and originates at the defunct Googies Coffee Shop in Hollywood. The style features curvilinear geometric shapes and upswept roofs.

20220307. This postmodern fire station references elements of classical residential architecture including a gable, tower and portico. The brick colours match nearby buildings. Interestingly, the facades opposite seem postmodern too.
