20230616. The Beaches IV: Baltic butterfly-roofed modernism in the Beaches by Estonian Viktor Tretjakewitsch, 1952. With a group of other immigrants, they may have been the first in Ontario to propose a co-operative model.
20230615. The Beaches III: Inside the Beach Mall. Formerly the Allen Beach Theatre (Hymes Feldman and Watson, 1919), a 1929 ad read “A Nice Place for Nice Folks to Go.” The theatre lasted 50 years and was renovated into a mall in 1970. The architectural style of the time is still evident today.

A change is proposed for this site – featuring a spectacular mid-century modern office building that’s not on the heritage register at 505 University (Shell Oil Building, Marani and Morris, 1958). The building will be demolished, rebuilt with 7 fewer floors and 50 more storeys on top.

20221118. The Bathville Towers feature a tower and podium both shaped like parallelograms with one turned 35 degrees from the other resulting in interesting angles where the building meets the street.
